Kitsch and Cliché, NG Art Gallery, Feb.2012

Red Sky at Night

Kitsch and Cliche is a celebration of poor taste transformed with fresh eyes. Culture is reflected upon itself, standards of art are criticized in ironic twists and what was deemed ‘not art’ is celebrated and elevated to levels of recognized standards once more.

Consumerism, memory and the ironic are all dissected and pasted back together again in what has the potential to be criticized as lowering artistic standards. But, in the photos’ self reflexive manner they knowingly smirk at the audience, and in this sly way create a new consciousness that transcends the trends that the photographs wittingly mock.”
