These photographs from my ”Outside-In” series focus on ordinary domestic moments in peoples lives. Framed by a window or doorway we are aware of being outside in the surrounding darkness looking in. The images are unsettling and invite us to make our own meaning.
The open shutter catches the fleeting movement of the characters as they move through time and are juxtaposed against the stillness of the rooms. This invites us to reflect upon our own impermanence. But also to acknowledge that what we see in the rooms as permanent will also in time devolve into nothingness. Impermanence is understood by Buddhists as one of the three marks of existence.
